Shakedown Dance School is currently offering dance lessons in Afro dance, hip hop, dancehall (reggaeton), and show dance.
We also provide private lessons and organize private performances to your own events. The school was founded in May 2006 and the renewed studio has started operating on Östringinkatu 2 in Kotka >> see map. Teaching is done in English, only basic Finnish is spoken.
Featuring Joe Kaiga
Experienced teacher who has performed as breaker, hip hop dancer, Afro dancer and show dancer worldwide. Kaiga has been representing Kenya in various dance competitions. For instance, he has been Malibu World Dance finalist.
Some other references are Florida Dancer, Safari Cats, Western and Nyanza & Rift Valley Provinces combined Dance Champion. Also former trainer of Kotkan opisto and Happy Dancers in Kotka.

Dancehall & Reggaeton lessons are on hold for a while, we will keep you informed when we resume the lessons.
African Trip & Dance Work-shop
We are arranging dance work-shops and trip to East Africa starting from May 2011. The trips will be carried out twice every year and as already mentioned, first trip is from end of May 29th-7th of June 2011 (2 days of traveling and 1 week in Kenya). The second trip will be at the pick of winter in 2012 January at a date to be posted later. Register up by sending email to joekaiga@hotmail.com. Call 041 728 0620 for more information. The trip will be a 1 weeks trip in which it will involve adventure filled and magical sites to experience. We will stay in Nairobi the capital city of Kenia and we will venture in African Safari to the Nakuru National park. We will then travel by road transport to Mombasa (2nd largest city in Kenia situated at the shores of Indian Ocean), and will visit the wonderful white-sand beaches where we will experience an incredible history and a fascinating culture and then we will travel back to Nairobi before we fly back to Finland. Activities while in Nairobi and in Mombasa will involve attending dance African workshops, visiting performances to African dance groups, visit to African Markets, and many other small events
Please make your reservations in advance to avoid last minute disappointments as the tickets have to be bought in advance. Contact Joe Kaiga for more information about the activities that will follow while in Kenya and the charges for the trip. Remember this will be a unique experience for you to talk about and take pictures.

Studio has moved to new address in Sunila Östringinkatu 2 Kotka. New members and previous members are all Welcome! Afro lessons will start on February 5th (Saturday) at 14:00hrs-15:00hrs. We are also looking for new girls/boys to join the dance courses.
In summer this year (June on dates to be published later), we will be hosting our first dance camp at the new address and we expect to hoost other dance teachers who will teach other forms of dancing such as rumba, salsa, merengue... to add on the dances that we normally teach
We are available for show to parties, weddings and any other celebrations and events!
Dance Courses
We have a wide range of different dance classes to suit your personal needs. Total beginners are also welcome. Change your social life today by booking your first dance lesson. All courses are fun packed, filled with lots of choreography, blended with great music from wonderful sound system.
You get to work out some body muscles that even in aerobic classes you would never discover. Only dancing stretches these muscles out and keeps you in a great shape making you feel good and proud of your body.
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a performer, try Afro dance. These Afro dance lessons are fun, challenging and a great way to stay fit. Live drums on Afro classes!
Afro Dance

Afro dance taught by the best Afro instructor in Northern Europe with high qualifications and best choreography blended with lots of experience. Your age does not matter in this course as we have room for people of all ages. Experience is unnecessary. Live drums on classes!
Dancehall (Reggaeton)

Learn the bogle, the butterfly and a whole range of reggae dancehall based moves. They can be seen in videos of the most famous reggaeton artists such as Daddy Yankee, Sean Paul and others.
Hip-Hop

For the youth, hip-hop classes are the ideal if you want to meet new people, go to clubs or parties and dance with confidence. No experience needed to get started.
Street Hip-Hop

Learn locking and popping, cool dance moves and funk dancing routines on street hip-hop courses.
Show Dance

Show dance is recommended for 18 years old and above. It is actually dancing and acting and may sometimes incorporate singing. Though at SDS, we do not do the singing part. It is mainly a dance for entertainment purpose (showbiz) which involves stage shows. We at SDS are currently compiling showdances to be performed at restaurants, discos, casinos and even aboard cruise ships. This form of dancing requires the highest ability, stamina, fitness, good bodies, dedication and complete commitment. It is there to be seen and wonderfully watchable.

30,00 € / month
Note:
Each membership card is valid to the particular month issued only and can not be used in the following month even if only used one time.
The cards should be surrendered to the management at the end of each month.
Payments made can not be refunded should any individual decide to quit. It's all up to individuals to utilize extensively their monthly membership card.
Cards can not be used for private lessons or transmitted to other persons (used by other persons except for the original owner issued to).
Other prices for private lessons and performances are to be agreed with Joe Kaiga.
